For sheer relaxation and a couple of the best swimming spots in the Islands, head to Kauna'oa, or Hapuna Beach State Park on the Kohala Coast, both of which offer prime sunbathing and have both been ranked among the best beaches in the world by Condè Nast magazine.

Hapuna Beach State Park is a great place for Big Island snorkeling and safe swimming when the water is calm, but the riptides are dangerous in the wintertime. Amenities include a wide, sandy beach, lifeguards, picnic tables, pavilions, and restrooms. Hapuna Beach is located on Highway 19 about two and a half miles south of Kawaihae.

Kauna'oa Beach, also known as Mauna Kea Beach, features a gorgeous crescent-shaped beach with great swimming and snorkeling. Parking is scarce, so arrive early or park at Hapuna Beach and walk a little less than a mile to this great beach.

Although the Big Island surf is not as high as on some of the other Hawaiian Islands, guests of can still find some good surfing here. Some of the top beaches to surf on the Big Island of Hawaii include Banyans, Pine Trees, and Old Kona Airport Beach.

Guests of will find excellent snorkeling in the calm, shallow water of Kahalu'u Beach Park on the Kona Coast.
